Evergreen Engineering is a Canmore based building enclosure, structural, and project management consulting firm serving clients across Western Canada. We work on buildings and structures of every size, age and type, offering expertise in assessment, rehabilitation and new design. Our focus is on delivering practical, durable and cost effective engineering solutions that stand the test of time.

Ben Toornstra, MSc, P.Eng., CPHD
Principal
Ben Toornstra is a Principal at Evergreen Engineering and a Canmore based building enclosure engineer with more than a decade of experience across Western Canada. His work spans residential, multi family, commercial, hospitality and institutional buildings, with a focus on building performance and long term durability. Ben manages multiple large scale rehabilitation projects, tailoring renewal strategies to suit each building’s unique needs and drawing on his industry connections to assemble the right team for every project.
When he is away from project work, Ben makes the most of mountain life in and around Canmore, spending time on local trails and in the community with family and friends.
Kristofer Dahl, P.Eng.
Principal
Kristofer Dahl is a Canmore based building enclosure and structural engineer with eight years of experience. He brings a strong mix of technical expertise and people skills to every project, consistently delivering timely, high quality work. Kris is known for building collaborative relationships with clients, contractor teams and fellow consultants to help keep projects on track and on budget.
Outside of work, Kris enjoys exploring the mountains on his bike or skis. He lives in Canmore with his wife and young daughter, who often joins him in the chariot on family adventures, cheering him on to go faster.
Local commitment and expertise
As a small local firm, we are closely tied to the buildings and people that shape our mountain communities. Being based in Canmore means we understand the realities of Western Canada’s climate, from cold and snowy winters, sunny summer days, to the way aging condos, townhomes and commercial buildings respond over time. Our regional experience helps us design and restore structures that stand up to local conditions while staying practical to build and maintain.
Our size is an advantage. We are small enough that clients work directly with senior engineers who know their projects, and large enough to take on complex assessments, renewals and new construction support. Because we are local, project budgets go toward engineering and project oversight rather than travel time.
We are also part of the communities we work in. Both Ben and Kris are raising their families in Canmore, and our lives are woven into the same rinks, schools, trails and local events as our clients. We are not just engineers working in the Rockies. We are neighbours, parents and community members who care about the long term health of the buildings that support life in the Bow Valley and across Western Canada.
